Manual Maize Sheller (Hand-Crank, Bench/Board Mount)

Distributed by: The Farmers House Ltd — Mile 3 Nkwen, Bamenda
Use: Fast shelling of dried maize cobs without electricity

Why farmers like it

  • Saves time & labor compared with hand shelling.

  • No power needed — ideal for villages, outgrower sites, or field shelters.

  • Simple & tough cast-metal build with toothed drum for steady shelling.

  • Clamp/bolt mount — fix to a bench or sturdy plank and start work anywhere.

  • Low grain loss when cobs are properly dried and husks removed.

How it works (3 easy steps)

  1. Mount the sheller firmly on a table, bench, or thick plank (use the built-in clamp/bolt).

  2. Feed a dry, de-husked cob into the hopper and turn the handle.

  3. Collect kernels in a basin under the outlet; the empty cob exits on the other side.

Best results with dry cobs (roughly 12–14% moisture) and clean, de-husked ears.

Features

  • Heavy-duty toothed rotor and spring-loaded pressure plate for consistent shelling

  • Comfortable hand grip and long handle for easier cranking

  • Open design for quick cleaning and inspection

  • Works with most local maize varieties and cob sizes

Capacity (typical)

  • Operator-dependent. Many users achieve 50–150 kg/hour with well-dried cobs and continuous feeding.

Maintenance & care

  • Brush out chaff daily; wipe with a lightly oiled cloth to prevent rust.

  • Do not wash with water; keep stored in a dry place.

  • Add a drop of light oil to the handle/shaft monthly.

  • Check mounting bolt/clamp before each session.

Safety

  • Keep hands clear of the hopper and toothed drum while turning.

  • Tie back loose clothing; use work gloves and stable footwear.

  • Only one person should feed while another cranks if working in pairs.

What you need to use it

  • A sturdy table/plank for mounting

  • Basin or sack to catch kernels; sack or basket for empty cobs
