Gremec 50 WG — Insecticide

Active ingredient: Emamectin benzoate 50 g/kg (5% WDG)
Pack size on shelf: 10 g sachet (The Farmers House Ltd, Mile 3 Nkwen, Bamenda)

What it does

  • Fast knockdown on caterpillars (Lepidoptera). Emamectin benzoate is a Group 6 insecticide (IRAC) that acts on the pest’s nervous system; larvae stop feeding soon after treatment and die shortly after.

  • Targets common crop caterpillars: armyworms (including fall armyworm), diamondback moth, leafrollers, fruitworms, and other leaf-feeding worms on vegetables and field crops.

Where farmers use it

  • Widely used on vegetables (tomato, brassicas, pepper, etc.) and maize for caterpillar control. Start applications at first signs of feeding or when scouting thresholds are reached.

How to mix and spray (field guide)

  • Fill your sprayer halfway, add the measured product, agitate, then top up with clean water.

  • Knapsack rates commonly used for 5% WDG formulations (follow your crop label):

    • 2.25–3 g per 15-L knapsack (equivalent to 15–20 g per 100 L water).

    • Some 5% labels specify ~8 g per 15-L knapsack for certain crops. Use the rate stated for your crop and pest pressure.

  • Coverage: Spray to wet the foliage well but avoid runoff; don’t spray during the hottest hours or when rain/wind is imminent.

  • Timing: Apply at early larval stages for best results. Re-treat based on scouting and label intervals.

Resistance management (keep it working)

  • Mode of Action Group 6 (avermectins/milbemycins). Rotate to a different MoA after at most two sequential sprays on vegetables to slow resistance.

Safety first

  • Wear PPE (gloves, long sleeves, boots, eye protection). Avoid contact with eyes and skin; wash after use. Keep out of reach of children. (Emamectin labels carry strong precautionary statements.)

  • Do not leave spray mix overnight; calibrate the sprayer for even coverage.

  • PHI/REI: Pre-harvest interval and re-entry interval vary by crop—always follow the Cameroon-approved label for Gremec 50 WG.

Registration/credibility

  • GREMEC 50 WG is listed in Cameroon pesticide homologations as emamectin benzoate 50 g/kg, WDG (registrant/distributor entries include GMR/Le Grenier).
